A made-to-drawing link, lifting point, connector or special fitting becomes part of a safety-critical load path. Copying envelope dimensions from a sample is insufficient because internal defects, grain flow, heat treatment, stress concentration and proof requirements affect performance. The RFQ must state whether the item is for overhead lifting, load securement, positioning or a non-lifting industrial connection.
Engineering and material route
Forged alloy steel is common for compact lifting hardware, while machined, cast or welded routes require duty-specific justification. Define design load cases, load angles, fatigue duty, temperature, material and heat treatment, dimensional tolerances, NDE, proof testing, design factor, traceability and marking. ASME B30.26 provides operational and inspection context for detachable rigging hardware; EN 1677 may apply to forged sling components. Compliance must be established for the exact design, not inferred from similar standard hardware.
Use and FAQ
Issue approved instructions showing compatible mating parts, permitted loading directions, assembly, inspection and removal criteria. Before use, verify identity, WLL, pin or thread engagement and absence of damage. Can an unmarked prototype lift a load? Not until the approved validation route is complete. Does proof testing replace design review? No. Can a damaged custom part be welded? Only through an authorized repair scheme, never as an improvised field fix.

Material route
Forged alloy steel and carbon steel are common routes for rigging hardware because grain flow, heat treatment and controlled inspection can be specified around the part. Cast, forged and fabricated parts are not interchangeable merely because their shapes appear similar.
Mechanical performance
Use the tensile strength, yield or proof strength, elongation, hardness, impact and heat-treatment requirements published for the selected material grade. Relevant properties differ by product form and test-piece basis. They describe material quality, not the capacity of the finished Custom Rigging Hardware; final suitability depends on geometry, interfaces, manufacturing condition and verification.
Finish and records
Specify plain, zinc-coated, hot-dip galvanized, painted, passivated or another compatible finish by a recognized coating specification where applicable. Define preparation, appearance, restricted substances, repair rules, packaging and required inspection documents instead of relying on a color photograph.
