Identify the host machine, function, mounting interfaces, motion envelope, load directions, duty cycle and foreseeable blockage or impact. Record exposure to soil abrasion, fertilizer, manure, crop acid, dust, sunlight, washdown and storage condensation. ISO 4254-1:2013 provides general agricultural-machinery safety requirements, but machine-specific parts of the ISO 4254 series and the manufacturer’s risk assessment govern the actual component.
Material and process should follow the failure mode: ductile iron may suit shock-loaded cast shapes, gray iron may suit damping-focused housings, and steel fabrication may suit weldable structures. Specify wear surfaces, replaceable interfaces, coating repair rules and restricted-substance requirements. Pins, guards and rotating parts require particular control of retention and clearance.
Prototype validation should include fit on the actual machine, movement through its operating range, guarding, service access and checks after representative duty. Installation documents must address energy isolation, supported implements and correct fasteners. Repeat orders should retain drawing revision, approved process and notification before tooling, material or supplier changes.
