Clevis Hanger vs Pipe Clamp vs Roller Support

Start with the required support function. Review clevis hangers for suspended support, clamps for the specified pipe connection, and rollers when the design calls for movement. The product name alone does not confirm insulation, restraint or load suitability.

These questions organize a purchasing review. They do not assign a support type to an unreviewed piping system. A clamp is not automatically an anchor, and a roller is not automatically a guide in every direction.

What do manufacturer examples establish?

ASC describes its Figure 260 clevis hanger for stationary pipe suspension and directs insulated-line enquiries to specific shield or alternative hanger arrangements. Its Figure 181 yoke pipe roll is intended for longitudinal movement associated with expansion or contraction. These named examples demonstrate different duties; their ratings and instructions remain specific to ASC. Figure 260; Figure 181.

Which diameter should be used for insulated pipe?

Record bare-pipe outside diameter, insulation thickness and the approved shield, saddle or insert as separate fields. Then obtain the selected support's sizing instructions for that complete interface. Do not treat nominal pipe size as the outside dimension of the finished insulated assembly.

ASC's Figure 181 guidance distinguishes bare-pipe sizing from use with a protection saddle and calls for the appropriate oversized roll for insulation and saddles. Apply the same purchasing question to a proposed alternative, while using that alternative's own approved sizing detail.

What information belongs in a movement requirement?

Ask the project designer to define movement direction, required travel and the design conditions. Carry that information into the support schedule together with the support tag. Identify any separately specified guide, restraint or stop. Do not calculate support spacing or choose a roller load from a general comparison article.

For a replacement, supply the existing arrangement and the reason for the change. If movement or insulation has changed since the original installation, request a review of the whole support instead of ordering a visual match.

The HT-129 page documents catalog geometry; load, bearing, material and finish still require confirmation for the quotation. Use the pipe-support selection overview to assemble the wider support schedule, then prepare the RFQ.
